#4 (one word poem) Addict

A D D I C T.

Suppose it wasn't what dulled the pain that he couldn't get enough of. Suppose it was her aura, the way she lit up the night, the way she said his name.

But maybe it was an echo he remembered. Suppose it was the way she kept his eyes blinking late at night. Suppose he loved the way she left him, oh so suddenly. How she'd kept him holding on to the edge by one finger before she let go, and he fell into the darkness.

Suppose it wasn't her at all. It was the sadness, how it washed over him and covered him. Took him away from her, and them, and himself.

As he slid to the floor in defeat and closed the door, he might've realized it was nothing more. It was all that he was. Nothing else. An A D D I C T.

  1. I AM OBSESSED!!! Wow that was incredible! I love the line "maybe it was an echo he remembered" like they were in love but love was almost forgotten and he only remembers moments of it.

  3. okay, so coming from a family of drug addicts I was afraid of what was going to be written. to my surprise there was kinda a dark vibe to this poem that drew me in and kept me reading. I love how there is no actual talk of drugs or anything but how a person is a drug and everything is kinda left to the readers mind to figure it out. amazing.
